Video Memoirs

You know the stories you’ve heard dozens of times and promise you’ll record one day “for the kids”? Stories about what life was like when your grandfather grew up, how your parents first met, the secrets behind a successful family business, or the values and life lessons you want passed down to future generations.

If you’re like most of us, you probably think about sitting down with your parents or grandparents one day and having them share their memories, but haven’t. Well, there’s no time like the present. Documentary filmmaker and founder of Montclair-based Life Out Loud™ Productions will conduct a two-part Montclair Film workshop on how best to capture and preserve your family’s past and tell your family story.

Part I: Introduction to Video Memoirs

Part I will focus on how to get started, develop questions and themes, conduct the interview and offer some basic camera, lighting and sound tips.

Date: Sunday, 11/19
Time: 2:00 – 4:30
Price: $25

Instructor: Oliver Miede

Part II: Editing Your Video Memoirs (Optional)

Part 2 teaches the fundamentals of Adobe Premier Pro, giving you the tools to pull your material (raw interviews, photographs, home movies, etc.) together and edit them into a powerful and compelling story your family will cherish for generations.  Space is limited to 11 computer stations (computers can be shared with a family member at no additional cost!)

Date: Sunday, 1/7
Time: 1:00 – 4:00
Price: $45
