Nelson George has a prolific output as a writer and filmmaker. His credits include producing Chris Rock’s Good Hair; and directing Brooklyn Boheme, ESPN’s The Announcement, and VH1’s Finding the Funk. In this session, he’ll share clips from his work-in-progress A Ballerina’s Tale about the black dancer Misty Copeland who breaks the stereotypes of ballet. George will discuss the creative and producing challenges of his independent films. He’ll also talk about his new book The Hippest Trip in America: Soul Train and the Evolution of Culture & Style. Moderated by filmmaker and curator Shola Lynch.
