PAINT ME A ROAD OUT OF HERE uncovers the whitewashed history of Faith Ringgold’s visionary painting, “For the Women’s House,” and how its journey is bound to the fate of incarcerated women. Director Catherine Gund explores the life and work of two Black women artists: Faith Ringgold, who created “For the Women’s House” for incarcerated women on Riker’s Island in 1971, and Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter, who is gearing up to work with women currently incarcerated to foresee a world without barriers to their full potential.
A Q&A with director Catherine Gund follows the screening.
