Community Engagement/Volunteer Manager

Montclair Film is seeking a full-time Community Engagement/Volunteer Manager who is a high-energy multi-tasker with dynamic leadership ability. The two primary responsibilities of this role include 1) building relationships with other community organizations and individuals to promote Montclair Film’s mission to transform lives and communities through the power of film and 2) managing our robust Volunteer Program.

The ideal candidate would be local to Montclair as this position requires flexibility and the ability to work some nights, weekends and holidays as needed. The fall is a particularly busy season for this role.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing Community Programming + Partnerships
    • Proactively seek out other non-profit organizations and community groups to utilize the power of film and Montclair Film resources to help them achieve their mission through partnerships focusing on underfunded organizations and expanding the diversity of Montclair Film’s audience
    • Assist in building new audiences for Montclair Film by seeking out partnerships with communities lacking film and arts programming
    • Create and execute programs/relationships that reinforce Montclair Film’s positive impact on the community
    • Ensure Montclair Film is represented at events such as sidewalk sales, parades and other community wide events
    • Main point of contact for all inquiries about potential programs and partnerships
  • Management of Volunteer Program:
    • Recruit, motivate, train and schedule hundreds of volunteers for the annual Montclair Film Festival and year-round activities including Summer Series, fundraisers, other Montclair Film and community events
    • Manage the volunteer database in Shiftboard
    • Work with staff department heads to ensure specific needs are met
    • Regularly communicate and engage with volunteers
    • Schedule, plan and host volunteer appreciation events throughout the year including the post festival wrap party
    • Organize and run a volunteer information session, pre-festival, to promote volunteer opportunities
    • Revise the Volunteer Handbook and Code of Conduct as needed
    • Manage any necessary disciplinary issues
    • Track shifts/hours worked to award appropriate perks/benefits
    • Develop a campaign to recognize volunteers during Volunteer Appreciation Week
    • Develop and maintain proficiency with PatronManager/Salesforce or other organizational
    • ticketing/CRM systems including Shiftboard
    • Collaborate with Marketing on annual volunteer t-shirt design and other items/materials as needed
  • Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Spearheading the Kids Art program
    • Working with the Ad Sales team to manage and be on-site for festival catalog delivery
    • Helping the production team with Summer Series logistical planning and execution
    • Working with the Director of Production + Special Events to manage the Accessibility Coordination efforts including running the Accessibility Advisory Committee.
    • Other duties as needed.

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven
  • Willingness to be a team player where no task is too small

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in program coordination or management in non-profit organizations
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ direct experience in recruiting, retaining and recognizing volunteers
  • Familiarity with local non profit and other community organizations is a plus
