SESSION 1 (S1)

S1: Filmmaking Bootcamp 1

In this hands-on filmmaking bootcamp, students will learn the art of filmmaking from script to screen. Students will work together as a film crew to generate ideas, work with actors, and master camera, lighting, and sound design. Students will also learn the basics of editing with Adobe Premiere Pro. In each class, students will work both behind and in front of the camera, in both exterior and interior locations, so that they can gain as much experience as possible. All of this will result in the production of their very own short film which will be screened in our in-house theater, Cinema505, at the end of the workshop. Students will also have an opportunity to learn from the masters as they screen, analyze and discuss a variety of classic and contemporary films in Cinema505.
No prior filmmaking experience is required. (Class size: 8 – 12)

S1: Improv

The fundamentals of improvisation are the fundamentals of life. Listening, agreeing, forwarding action, taking care of your partner, and so much more! You’ll be introduced to these lessons as you play games as well as create characters and scenes using a variety of improv and creativity exercises. Students will develop the ability to be spontaneous and collaborative, both of which are important acting tools. By working together on unscripted scenes, students will stimulate their imaginations and tap into their ability to think on their feet and be in the moment. The goal is to have a group performance at the end of our 10 day session. Number one rule is to have fun! (Class size: 7 – 13)

SESSION 2 (S2)

S2: Filmmaking Bootcamp 2

Filmmaking Bootcamp 2 is the ideal choice for young filmmakers with some experience making films who want to advance their skills. In this hands-on workshop, emerging filmmakers will learn how to bring their projects to the next level by digging deeper into the elements of film including directing, lighting, cinematography, and editing used by master filmmakers to tell compelling stories. Students will also have an opportunity to screen, analyze and discuss a variety of classic and contemporary films in our in-house theater, Cinema505. Filmmaking I or previous experience not required, but recommended. (Class size: 8 – 12)

S2: Acting for Film & TV

This course is designed to help students master the craft of acting specifically for on-camera work. We will explore the craft of acting in a safe, fun, and engaging way, and we’ll also look at the ways in which on-camera acting is different than stage acting. Class activities include improv games, monologues, scene study, and basic acting techniques –all geared toward helping discover and empower the performer inside you! Each student will have the chance to get in front of the camera every class, and for those who are interested, there will also be an opportunity to work behind the camera to understand the dynamic between the actor and the director. At the end of the workshop, students will have their own personal audition tape. (Class size: 8 –15)

SESSION 3 (S3)

S3: Editing with Premiere Pro

Great editing skills can really make a film come alive! In this hands-on beginner workshop, students will learn the interface, controls, and features of the industry-standard software, Adobe Premiere Pro. Our instructors will teach you how to log footage, create a rough cut, add titles and credits, implement transitions, work with sound, and even play with color. Students will also begin to learn the craft and language of editing. In the course of the week, students will edit a short narrative scene, a promo, and a documentary short! No prior editing skills required. (Class size: 7 – 12)

NEW! S3: Visual Effects (VFX)

Learn how movie magic is done! Go behind the scenes and discover the exciting high-tech world of VFX. In this NEW hands-on workshop, students will explore visual effects and how they are created. Students will learn a variety of techniques such as Rotoscoping, Compositing, Set Extension and Camera Tracking using industry standard VFX software.

This workshop is the perfect mix of storytelling, technology and creativity. From creating lightsabers to fantastic greenscreen worlds, to designing your Iron Man Repulsor Jet and even cloning yourself… Let your imagination run wild in this new cutting-edge VFX workshop! (Class Size: 8 – 12)
