S4: Editing with Premier Pro

Great editing skills can really make a film come alive! In this hands-on beginner workshop, students will learn the interface, controls, and features of the industry-standard software, Adobe Premiere Pro. Our instructors will teach you how to log footage, create a rough cut, add titles and credits, implement transitions, work with sound, and even play with color. Students will also begin to learn the craft and language of editing. In the course of the week, students will edit a short narrative scene, a promo, and a documentary short! No prior editing skills required. (Class size: 7 – 10.)

S4: Cinematography Intensive

Cinematography is fundamental to the art of visual storytelling. In this intensive one week class, students will become proficient in the technical aspects of shooting digital cinema, for both documentary and narrative scenarios. Students will be guided on how to properly use camera equipment like lenses and mounts. Our instructor will lead each student to examine the use of composition, lighting, color theory, and movement in their shots, utilizing these tools to help create mood and convey the desired message. Students will also expand their knowledge of cinema history. Whether you want to be a cinematographer, director, writer, (or even if you are still undecided), this course will provide the knowledge and techniques that emerging filmmakers need to improve their craft. Filmmaking 1 or filmmaking experience recommended. (Class size 7 – 12)

S4: Stand-Up Comedy

Wiseguy? Chatterbox? Class clown? This is the workshop for you!
In this class, students will learn the art of Stand-up comedy. Through a series of exercises, they’ll generate and develop material, craft jokes and build a monologue. They’ll learn about timing, act-outs and voice. They’ll learn microphone technique and how to speak to an audience. Each day, students will get up in front of the class and perform, building their comfort level and their confidence. The workshop will culminate in a graduation show at Montclair Film’s Cinema 505, which will be filmed so students can see their performances. (Class size: 8 – 12)
