I Am Not A Witch
$14 Regular
$12 For Members (not a member?)
Following a meaningless incident in her local village, 8-year-old Shula (Maggie Mulubwa) is accused of witchcraft. After a short trial, she is found guilty, taken into state custody, and exiled to a “witch camp” in the middle of a desert, where she meets other accused women who teach her the rules of the game. But how can Shula accept this new reality when it all seems so unreal? Rungano Nyoni’s brilliant I AM NOT A WITCH is a scathing tale of transcendence over systemic corruption, sexism, and the collective paranoia they inspire.
In English, Bemba, and Nyanja with English subtitles.
Q&A with producer Daniel Battsek to follow.
