The rock and roll documentary is a form defined by its fealty to its well-worn tropes; talking heads, performance clips, backstage drama, hagiographic celebration. In PAVEMENTS, Director Alex Ross Perry uses the form to playfully and ironically subvert it. A pitch-perfect look at the career of the generation defining band Pavement, the film explores the band through several creative interventions– a fiction film, a stage musical, an art and memorabilia exhibit, archival and performance footage, and ultimately, the film PAVEMENTS itself– to create a rock and roll mosaic unlike any other.
