The Troubles of 20th century Northern Ireland, which saw the nation divided between Republicans, seeking unification with Ireland, and the Loyalists, seeking to preserve Northern Ireland’s relationship to the United Kingdom, provide the backdrop for BELFAST, the new film written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Kenneth Branagh. Told through the lens of a child’s perspective, one which reflects Branagh’s own experiences as a young boy in Northern Ireland, BELFAST is a poignant story of love, laughter and loss in one boy’s childhood, amid the music and social tumult of the late 1960s.
