A singular vision of creative historical reclamation, Georden West’s PLAYLAND is the story of the Playland Café, Boston’s oldest and most notorious gay hangout. Built in the pre-Stonewall age where police and government forces conspired in an effort to drive Playland out of business, its endurance was a testament to the power of community. Using documentary interviews with a diverse coterie of Playland’s patrons juxtaposed against a visual fantasia that creates an unique fictionalized experience of this beloved institution, PLAYLAND is a stunning expansion of the language of cinema, drawing on inspirations past while forging something completely new.
In English and in German with English subtitles.
